Karen Ernst joined KACB Board of Directors in 2018. She has had a lifelong interest in nature, growing up in south central Nebraska close to agriculture and spending countless summers camping under the stars and exploring nature.
In high school she volunteered at her city's recycling center and helped found the her school's first ever Ecology Club. This club implemented a school-wide recycling program and was preparing to Adopt-A-Highway by the time she graduated.
Ernst moved to Rockport part-time during her dissertation work at UT-Austin in 2005, and returned as a full time resident in 2006 to join the staff at Rockport Center for the Arts where she has served as Education Director ever since.
She became actively involved with KACB through her work with the short-term economic recovery team following Hurricane Harvey. She assisted with clean-up, beautification planning and grant-writing initiatives. Ernst hopes to use her skills and experience to further the mission of KACB and help restore Rockport-Fulton to its former charm.
Enriching and empowering the community through litter prevention, waste management, beautification and recycling by means of education and enforcement.
